3 Simple things you can do to extend the life of your carpet

Jan 16 2016

1. Leave your shoes at the door

I know you hate to be that annoying person who asked right when guest walk in to please remove their shoes but there is a good reason that this rule exists. According to

Studies have shown that people track in all sorts of harmful toxins from outside the home when they walk into the house without removing their shoes. These toxins persist in the air in the form of dust, which is inhaled and absorbed by our skin as it settles in the carpet and furniture. Chemicals stay in the air and on surfaces longer in our homes than they do outdoors, where the sun and rain help break down pesticide residues.

Children are more highly exposed to these chemicals. They spend most of their time on or near the floor, and can breathe in and touch chemical-laden dust or soil tracked in by shoes. Little kids who are constantly putting their hands and other objects in their mouths can ingest these dangerous particles, too. In addition, the infant breathing zone nearest the floor is less ventilated than the adult breathing zone.

Now, let me tell you a little about the toxins we’re literally walking into our homes.

These chemicals include pesticides and herbicides that are sprayed on lawns and gardens (they can remain on the lawn for up to a week after application). An EPA study found that 85% of the total daily exposure to airborne pesticides was from breathing air inside the home—a result of both indoor use of such chemicals and track-in. At least a few studies have focused solely on tracked-in chemicals and their persistence in homes. For instance, a 1996 study found that the weedkiller 2,4-D used to treat lawns could persist in carpet dust up to one year. Pesticides have been repeatedly linked to cancers, tumors, and neurological disorders, among other things.

(To read more of this interesting article click the link on the sources portion of this blog below)

As you can see something as simple as having your family and guests remove their shoes before entering your home can not only keep the dirt, toxins, pesticides and herbicides from getting into your air and carpet (which then gets ground deeper and deeper into the carpet fibers the more people walk on it) it also helps preserve the look of your carpet as well. You are helping keep everyone in your home healthy, keeping your carpets clean, and extending your carpets life at the same time!

2. Get your carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months

Shoes or no shoes, as I have stated many times before, the EPA recommends that you get your carpets cleaned every six months, and more if you have children and pets in your home. Having a 14-month old son myself I now understand the true importance of having my carpets professionally cleaned at least every 4 months. He is walking all over the place now yet he loves to roll around on the carpet, lay his head down on the carpet, and he is even doing headstands now….on the carpet. The carpet is where he spends the majority of his playtime and I know that even if I vacuum once a week (which I….or my husband does…us moms need a break at some point right?!) there are still those pesky germs, dust, pesticides, etc. that are so ground in the carpet fibers that only a professional cleaner can get them out. I highly encourage anyone with infants or toddlers to try to get their carpets cleaned at least twice a year.

At CarpetMasters Flooring Co., a family owned company, we know that finances are tight and that carpet cleaning might not be your first (or even 10th!) choice of what you would like to spend your money on, which is why we price competitively and we give great specials to our preferred customers. For example, right now you can get 3 rooms of carpet cleaning plus a free hallway for only $99. If you are a preferred customer you should have a $10 gift card from your last use so that takes it down to $89! It is money well spent, especially when you see your little ones (or big kids too!) rolling around on the carpet. The peace of mind that there is nothing harmful in your carpet is worth it.

3. Call the professionals when you spill something on your carpet

When you spill something on your carpet call us first. Don't use over the counter products on the stain. One of the biggest mistakes people make when they spill something on the carpet is they use a stain removal spray that you purchase at Walgreens, Walmart, etc. that "guarantees" to get stains out. Then when one doesn’t work, they try another one and another. All you are doing is adding unneeded chemicals into your carpet. Instead try to wipe the stain up with water only, and if that does not work call us. We will come out and do a free estimate for fixing the stain, and we can even be prepared to take care of it right then and there.

Your carpet needs to be taken care of, and we are here to do that for you at an affordable price while also making your home safe for all children and pets. Call today to make your appointment.

We now offer air duct cleaning

Oct 14 2014

Carpet Masters Flooring Co. now offers air duct cleaning. Do you ever think about how much dust, dirt, dust mites, pollen or even mold could be in your air ducts? Air ducts can also contain pet dander, fungi and bacteria. Or what about when your toddler takes off the top of the vent and throws a couple of his toys, or his snacks down there? Pet toys? Makeup? The possibilities are endless!

We have a state-of-the-art machine that allows us to put a camera down into the air duct so you can see what is there and if it needs to be cleaned.

Air Duct Cleaning:
  • Removes years of dust and dirt
  • Removes allergy aggravating contaminants
  • Can improve the air quality in your home
  • Can improve your heating and cool system efficiency
  • With Fox-Brands you will have peace of mind as well - we guarantee our work!
Many health risks result from dirty duct work. The debris may cause allergic reactions, bronchitis, headaches, dry eyes, nausea, tiredness and asthma just to name a few possible health issues. It has been determined that indoor air may contain up to 70% more pollution than the air you breathe while outside. The debris found in dirty ducts is a major source of this indoor pollution. It is important to note that estimates suggest people will spend 60% or more of their life indoors which makes duct cleaning essential. (

How necessary is air duct cleaning?

“Many wonder just how necessary this process is. Experts have estimated that 90% of heating/cooling system failures are due to a buildup of this debris. Even if your system does remain operational, debris buildup of less than 1/16” can reduce the efficiency of your system. This will lead to higher energy bills. Additionally, more than 50% of sick building syndrome cases have been linked to debris build up in duct work. A simple duct work cleaning can save both your health and your system!”

Now is the time to call! We are doing a start up special (For a limited time only) where it is ONLY $18 per vent (10 vent minimum). Normally it is $25 per vent so don't miss this great offer!

Get upholstery cleaned

Sep 23 2014

Not only do we offer carpet cleaning, but we clean upholstery as well. It is just as important to get the couches that your family, kids, and pets spend time on cleaned as it is your carpets. Here are some major reasons why you should have your furniture professionally cleaned:

Protect your investment! Couches, chairs, ottomans, recliners, and decorative pillows can be very expensive. Dirt and grime does build up in furniture just as it does in carpet. Cleaning your upholstery on a regular basis can prevent this because the dirt and grime will make your furniture age faster and keeping it clean will help it last longer.
Keep furniture looking new - With professional cleaning you can help maintain the appearance of your furniture. It will help keep your furniture looking nicer for a longer period of time.
Protect your family - Bacteria, allergens, and dust mites will build up in your upholstery. Getting these things removed can help prevent undesirable odors and sickness to your family.
Keep your air clean - Most people don’t realize that cleaning your upholstery can help with the air quality in your home. Professional cleaning will help improve air quality by getting rid of mold, dust, mildew, and even other allergens. Bad air quality in any home can cause breathing problems with anyone in your family!
Prevent permanent stains - The longer those stains sit there, the harder they are to remove. As soon as something gets spilled call us and we can do a free estimate to let you know how to remove the stain immediately and keep your furniture looking great.

When you have your upholstery professionally cleaned it should help restore the color giving it a new look!

Call us today for pricing on the upholstery that you would like to be cleaned. We can give you an estimate over the phone or we can also send someone out to do a FREE in home estimate. Protect your investment, your family, and your air quality!

Why you should have your commercial carpet cleaned regularly

  • Prolongs the life of carpeting. Regular carpet cleaning using the extraction method can increase the life of carpets significantly, protecting your floor-covering investment.
  • Protects indoor air quality. Carpets trap airborne pollutants; however, eventually those pollutants must be removed in order to protect the carpet and maintain indoor air quality.
  • Removes spots and stains. As with other soils, spots and stains can attract more soiling. Removing them promptly protects carpeting from damage.
  • Prevents buildup of allergens and bacteria. Moist soiling of carpets can result in the buildup of several unhealthy contaminants.
  • Improves worker morale. Workers feel better about their work environment when it is clean. This includes the carpeting.
  • Maintains the carpet’s warranty. Most carpet warranties require that carpets be cleaned using the extraction method within a specific amount of time

What Carpet Masters Flooring Co. can do to help with pet stains

Aug 26 2014

Pet stains and pet odor are among the most common problems that our customers have. Sometimes, the customer can’t see a stain but can still smell the pet odor. We can help!

Pets tend to have accidents in the same spots over and over. Once the stain is removed, the odor can still remain. This could be due to the urine having gone through to the pad or the stain not being properly removed, and your pet still using this area. The first thing to do is locate all the areas that the pet is eliminating. Sometimes it is hard to see the affected areas, although if you get a free estimate first, a trained technician will bring a black light with him to locate these spots.

Next, the area needs to be treated and cleaned thoroughly before training your pet not to go back to the same spot. This is where we come in. During the free estimate the technician will tell you what route is best to take, whether it be stain removal, deodorizer, odor removal, or even new carpet. Once the carpet has been cleaned, the pet needs to be re-trained not to go in these same area. Make the spot unattractive or unavailable to the pet.

According to, the cleaning is the most important part. They say, “To be successful, you need to follow all of these steps. If you fail to completely clean the area, your re-training efforts will be useless. As long as your pet can smell his personal scent, he’ll continue to return to the “accident zone.” Even if you can’t smell traces of urine, your pet can. Your most important chore is to follow these steps to remove (neutralize) that odor.”

It is very important to get your carpets professionally cleaned so the pet odor is completely removed from your carpet! The last thing you want to do is re-train your pet to not go to a certain spot, only for the training to be useless because the scent remains. We also offer a 30 day guarantee! If the spot/odor comes back in thirty days we will come back out free of charge to re treat the area. Call today for a free estimate.

Carpet repair - what we can do for you

Aug 12 2014

If you are looking to give your carpet a new look without the cost of replacement, we can help! Every day we have people call the office who are searching for solutions for one of the following issues:
  • Pet stains and odors
  • Pet bites, causing holes and tears
  • Cat claw holes and loose carpet fibers
  • Cigarette and candle burn holes
  • Rust and permanent stains from liquids such as Kool-Aid, Lipstick, etc.
  • Ruffled carpets, wavy carpets, loose carpets
  • Loose carpeting seams
  • Flood and water damage
  • Carpet snags
  • Bleach stains
  • Carpet ripples
  • Carpet bulges
  • Carpet threshold additions between rooms
  • Carpet matching
  • Melted carpet
  • Carpets detached from tack strips
  • Missing tack strips and rotted tack strips
  • Exposed seams

Carpet Masters Flooring Co. can take care of any of these without having to install new carpet. A few options for severe stains (that cannot be removed) is splicing. Splicing is when the technician cuts out the affected area (the stain, burn, wax, etc.) and replaces it with a new piece of carpet. This does require the customer to have an extra piece of carpet. If this is not possible, it is an option to take a piece of carpet from an area in a closet, or a spot in the home that the stain will not be seen and use that for the carpet.

We also offer stretching. This works on those pesky areas of your carpet that have ripples, bulges or are loose and wavy. Remember that if the room is not vacant (which means completely free of any furniture) this does require a FREE estimate first!

If your carpet has come out of the tack strip (a thin piece of wood studded with hundreds of sharp nails or tacks used in the installation of carpet) and is fraying we can take care of that as well. This tends to happen when there is a lot of traffic from room to room. Also your lovable family pet could get his claws in there and cause the carpet to detach from the tack strip. No need to worry, we can fix that as well. We simply stretch and re-tack the carpet. If a new tack strip is needed we can bring one to your appointment. It’s that easy!

Don’t wait another second to call us to fix that bulge, stain, or exposed carpet that has been bothering you. If you are worried about the cost, call today and set up a FREE estimate. Our experienced technician will come out and look at the area and let you know exactly what can be done, and for what price. We offer great customer care and amazing pricing!

What is spot dying?

Jul 29 2014

We have a lot of people calling us wanting to know if we can spot dye a stain, a bleach spot, or an area where the carpet has turned a different color due to fading. As many of our long-time customers know, we used to be called DyeMasters. The main reason we changed our name is because we no longer dye wall-to-wall carpet, due the fact that these days carpet has built-in dye-resistant properties, making it almost impossible to dye a whole room. Although we are one of the only companies in the area that does offer spot dyeing.

Carpet Masters Flooring Co. has the ability to perform complete color restoration. This procedure can be performed on small areas, not the entire carpet, at significantly lower cost than carpet replacement. If something has taken the color out of your carpet, for example a bleach stain, we can remove the blemish giving the carpet a uniformed appearance. In most instances, we can achieve a 100% correction.

Keep in mind, this is usually done when the color has been taken out of the carpet for one reason or another. When it comes to pet stains, wine spills, dirt tracks, etc. We also specialize in severe stain removal.

If you have any questions about what you can do to improve the appearance of your carpet call us today. Our friendly office staff can answer all your questions and even send a qualified technician out to do a FREE estimate. That technician will take a look at your carpet and let you know what route is best for you; whether it is spot dyeing, cleaning, stain removal or replacement. Call today!
